Douglas S. Berkman, M.D, Sc.M., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Berkman is Director of Robotic Surgery at Virtua Memorial Hospital where he has performed over 800 robotic surgeries. He is also a partner and member of the Board of Managers of Delaware Valley Urology.

A 1998 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Berkman earned a Master of Science in Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health prior to attending medical school.  After receiving his MD from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers, he served a surgical internship and urologic surgical residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center in New York. He completed his education in 2010 with a fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic urologic oncology from New York University Langone Medical Center and the NYU Cancer Institute.

Dr. Berkman takes a special interest in urologic oncology, treating all forms of cancer of the genitourinary system. These include prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers, as well as upper tract urothelial carcinoma, and adrenal, testicular, penile and urethral cancers. Dr. Berkman's advanced training in urologic oncology enables him to take a multidisciplinary approach to treating these diseases. In addition to surgical treatments, he works closely with colleagues in medical and radiation oncology to coordinate the entire spectrum of care for these urologic cancers.

Fellowship training in robotic and laparoscopic surgery compliments Dr. Berkman's advanced oncology training to bring state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical treatments to his patients. He performs all major urologic cancer surgeries through a robotic approach, including prostatectomy, nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, cystectomy, and adrenalectomy.

Dr. Berkman is also expert in minimally invasive robotic surgical approaches to benign conditions of the urinary tract such as ureteropelvic junction obstruction, ureteral stricture disease, bladder diverticula, and benign prostatic hypertrophy.  He performs robotic pyeloplasty, ureteral reconstruction, bladder diverticulectomy and simple suprapubic prostatectomy.
